Fat Bear Week has wrapped up, and this year’s winner is none other than Chunk, a massive brown bear from Alaska’s Katmai National Park. Chunk finally claimed the crown after three years of coming close. Chunk weighs an estimated 1,200 pounds.

Chunk also has a broken jaw, likely from a fight with another bear. But that didn’t stop him from packing on the pounds and dominating the bracket-style competition, which drew over 1.5 million votes from fans around the world.

Fat Bear Week is more than just a quirky contest. It’s a celebration of nature. Each year, viewers tune in to live webcams at Brooks River to watch bears bulk up for hibernation.

They vote on their favorites based on before-and-after photos, personality, and sometimes dramatic backstories — like Chunk’s infamous encounter with Grazer’s cub last year.
