This morning on B Mornings with Brooke and Adam, we talked about one of Lincoln’s quirkiest and most beloved winter traditions—the “Name That Snowplow” contest! If you’ve ever dreamed of seeing your clever creation cruising through the snow-covered streets of Lincoln, now’s your chance.

The Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department just kicked off the third and final year of this annual contest, and submissions are open through November 5. Residents can submit their best snowplow name ideas, and later this winter, vote on their favorites. The top eight winning names will be proudly displayed on city snowplows next year.

Past winners have included some absolute gems like:

  • The Big LePlowski
  • Sleetwood Mac
  • Ctrl Salt Delete
  • Betty Whiteout
  • Han Snowlo
  • Plowabunga
  • Sled Zeppelin

Here’s how it works:

  • Oct. 16 – Nov. 5: Submit your snowplow name at lincoln.ne.gov/NameThatSnowplow
  • Week of Dec. 1: LTU selects the top 25 names
  • Dec. 8 – Dec. 19: Community voting opens
  • Week of Jan. 5: Winners announced and prizes awarded

A few rules to keep in mind: names must be 17 characters or less, no profanity, and no copyrighted or trademarked terms. And if multiple people submit the same name, the first one in gets the credit—so don’t wait!

Whether you’re feeling punny, nostalgic, or just want to leave your mark on Lincoln’s winter fleet, this is a fun way to get involved and show off your creativity. We’ll be keeping an eye on the submissions and maybe even tossing in a few of our own!

Got a great snowplow name idea? Let us know on the show or tag us on social media—we’d love to hear it!
