You’re cruising down the highway in South Africa, maybe sipping your morning coffee, when you look up and wait, is that a lion on top of a trailer directly in front of us?
Yes. A real, live lion.
In one of the wildest traffic incidents ever heard of, a lion being transported between provinces in South Africa managed to escape from inside a moving trailer, climb onto the roof, and ride along at 60 miles per hour.
The big cat had fought through a small observation hatch and perched there for several miles, stunning passing drivers. They did what anyone would do in a situation that no one would believe and got it on video!
Thankfully, the lion was still partially sedated, which kept it calm. The driver pulled over after being alerted, and the lion leapt off the trailer and casually strolled along the roadside. He seems totally unfazed and unbothered by his escape.
A vet was called in to tranquilize the animal again, and it was safely reloaded for the rest of its journey.
The lion was being moved to a new game farm, and authorities are now inspecting the facility to ensure it meets proper standards. The owner says the lion is unharmed.
