Will you be handing out potatoes with the candy tonight? If not, then you are missing out on this year’s trending hot Halloween treat.

The last couple of years, people from Los Angeles to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, have offered kids a choice of some candy or a potato. And a lot of kids have picked the potatoes! So, this year the idea is spreading like wildfire. Just go to YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok and type in “Halloween Potato”. Tons of videos pop up with kids reaching for the………..yep, starchy vegetable that was dug out of a pile of dirt.

And you know what? Awesome! That’s what. Potatoes can be food. Get some googly eyes and you’ve got a toy. You can even turn them into batteries. Plus, a candy bar has 12 grams of sugar. A potato only has 2 as well as vitamin C!

It’s so big this year, that Potatoes USA, the marketing and research firm for the potato industry has developed a campaign called “Trick Or Tater” including special potato recipes.  The Franken Fries look pretty tasty.
