If you’re like me, you might have watched Star Trek and thought, “I need a Tribble in my life,” Casio might have just answered your call, hopefully without the intergalactic chaos.

Their latest creation, Moflin, is an AI-powered emotional support pet that looks like a fuzzy gray puffball and acts like it has feelings. Think of it as a cross between a guinea pig and a Tamagotchi, but with way more tech under the hood.

So, what’s the big deal? Casio claims Moflin can develop a unique personality over time, thanks to machine learning and sensors that respond to your touch and voice. It even comes with a charging nest that looks suspiciously like a futuristic pet bed. Cute, right? And maybe a bit scary?

  • Price Tag: At around $400, Moflin isn’t exactly an impulse buy.
  • Emotional AI: Casio says it can express millions of emotional states. Translation? It chirps, wiggles, and occasionally melts your heart.
  • The App: There’s an app to track its “growth,” but early reviews suggest it’s still mostly in Japanese. So, good luck if you’re not bilingual.

Why does this matter? Because we’re officially living in a world where tech companies are selling companionship. For people who can’t have pets, or people that just want something low-maintenance, Moflin might be the answer.

Would I buy one? Honestly, I’m torn. It’s adorable, but my dog, Lorelei, would probably take offense and think it was a chew toy. Still, if you’ve ever wanted a Tribble that doesn’t multiply and comes with a USB cable, Moflin might be your best option.
