The Tax Credit Alliance of Nebraska is looking for volunteers to prepare taxes for low-to-moderate income households at no cost. Katharina Stokes project director manager and tells KLIN News volunteers can sign up on their website.
“Once they fill that out, we’ll send them information on some training they have to do to be IRS certified,” Stokes says. “We just teach them a little bit about tax laws and what they need to do.” She says the are ten locations across Lincoln where volunteers can work.
Stokes says they have a number of volunteers who return each year to help Nebraskans navigate the tax process. “And we also get a lot of college students who want some experience learning with their business degree.”
She also says that experience looks good on a resume. Stokes says they have prepared more than 2,000 returns in each of the last two years and the clients are appreciative of the assistance they receive.
