Lincoln Police have identified the officer and suspect involved in an early-morning shooting Wednesday in northeast Lincoln.

LPD says Officer Kirby Urbanek, who has more than seven years of law enforcement experience and joined LPD in 2022, responded to an alarm just after 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 25 at the Office Depot near 50th and R streets.

Investigators say 49-year-old Robert Bures was found near a rear access door. Bures reportedly threw a metal object and fired at the officer, who returned fire. The handgun used by Bures was recovered at the scene.

Bures remains hospitalized following multiple surgeries and faces charges including attempted murder, burglary, use of a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

The officer was not injured. The investigation is ongoing.
