One person is dead after fire broke out in the basement of a home near 52nd and Leighton just before4:00 Thursday afternoon. Witnesses reported heavy smoke coming from the home. LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman the caller had tried to evacuate the rest of the four unit apartment building.
“Two individuals were rescued off of the balcony and one person was found deceased on the ground level,” Lierman says. Lierman says 6-7 people lived in the apartment house and the Red Cross is working with the residents.
