The City of Lincoln says a new initiative offered by Lincoln City Libraries and CenterPointe will provide guidance on housing, health care and other essential services creates a connection between the community and vital social support resources.
“By offering these services in a familiar, welcoming space, we will help residents navigate challenges, build skills and strengthen opportunities for themselves and their families,” Mayor Gaylor Baird says. “This partnership illustrates how our public libraries are more than books. They are safe and welcoming community hubs that people turn to for answers, support, and human connection.”
Through the program, a Community Resource Worker will be available 20 hours a week at Bennett Martin Public Library in downtown to provide information to residents regarding supportive community resources. The service is offered from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
In addition to one-on-one support, plans for the Community Resource Worker include offering group programming at the library, such as mindfulness sessions for children and support groups for individuals and families affected by behavioral health challenges.
The service has been offered since February and is made possible by a $25,000 grant from the Woods Charitable Fund. For more details click here.
