A local church is inviting the community to take part in a daylong Good Friday tradition across Lincoln. Christ Lincoln is hosting a public Cross Walk, with participants carrying a cross through the city in remembrance of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Pastor Aaron Hutton is leading the walk and says it’s a visible act of reflection and a reminder of what they call God’s great love for everyone. “He had such a sacrifice for us. For us to do just a little piece of helping remind our community that that’s what happened on this Friday, Hutton says.
“That’s why we call it a Good Friday, because somebody was willing to sacrifice himself and that we might have life in his name.” Hutton says the eight foot tall, 4 x 4 walnut cross will be carried along a ten mile route and anyone can join them.
“Anyone who wants to come out and carry the cross is a blessing,” Hutton says. “That saves me. It will be carried, it’s just by whom. Thankfully, there’s been a lot of strong backs here helping out.”
By the end of the day, participants will travel past several well-known areas, including Normal Boulevard, the Nebraska State Capitol, downtown, the Haymarket and Railyard district, the Lied Center, and O Street. The day will conclude at 7:00 p.m. with a Good Friday worship service at the Sumner Street campus.
