Pokémon Cards, Husker Memorabilia Stolen From Lincoln Sports Card Shop

By Tom Stanton Apr 16, 2026 | 3:26 PM

Chris Dietrich was at home when he got a call around 7:15 Wednesday morning that someone had smashed their way into Capital City Sports Cards near 56th and Old Cheney about three hours earlier.

He tells KLIN News the front glass door was broken with a paving stone and once inside, the thief smashed a glass display case.  “Most of what was taken were graded Pokémon cards and some Husker memorabilia.”

A number of card cases were also rummaged through.  Dietrich says he’s not surprised someone went after the expensive cards because the trading card industry has exploded since Covid. “Unfortunately anymore across the country there’s a ton of break-ins at shops,” Dietrich says.  “We just moved into this location in August and we have an enhanced security system that unfortunately failed us.”

He says between the damage to the front door and glass case and the stolen merchandise, damage could climb to $20,000.  Lincoln Police are continuing the search for the suspect, who they believe is also responsible for a burglary that same morning at the Romantix adult entertainment store in the same area.
