The famous “Big Boy” train will be making a stop in Omaha May 30th.
Even if you’re not into trains, this is something to see. This is one of those giant “nothing is ever going to stop this thing” trains built to carry wartime freight around the US during World War 2. It’s 133 feet long and weighs 1.2 million pounds.
Coming out of Wyoming, this Big Boy train is doing a tour for America’s 250th birthday and if I understand right, this will be the first time it’s crossed the Mississippi river since 1941. More than 80 years ago.
It’s just an amazing piece of history to see. I’m not into trains, but when I see this thing, it boggles my mind how they were able to even get enough power and momentum to make it move an inch.
Anyway, people literally line up along the tracks in the middle of nowhere just to watch this thing go by. Then they’ll follow it in their cars. It’s kind of a big deal. Again, making a stop in Omaha on the 30th.
