Lincoln Parks and Recreation staff will conduct a prescribed burn from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday on about five acres of the remnant prairie located north of the sledding area in Pioneers Park. The equestrian trail located in the sledding area will be closed during the burn.
Access to the Pioneers Park Nature Center will remain open. Community members are advised to avoid the area during this project. Aaron Druery is the Parks and Recreation Greenways District Supervisor and says prescribed and controlled burns are tools to manage large areas of native plants and grasses, reduce wildfire risk, and enhance wildlife habitat.
Parks staff monitor weather and air quality conditions to ensure safe burns.
