AAA Activates Tow to Go Program for Fourth of July Holiday

By Tom Stanton Jul 2, 2026 | 6:00 AM

AAA is once again offering its Tow to Go program over the Independence Day holiday to help keep impaired drivers off the road during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year. The free, confidential service will be available in Nebraska from 6 p.m. Friday, July 3, through 6 a.m. Monday, July 6.

AAA expects more than 72 million Americans to travel over the holiday, including 61.4 million who will drive. “Even one impaired driver is too many,” says AAA spokesman Brian Ortner. He says Tow to Go provides a last-resort option that can prevent a tragedy and ultimately save lives.

The program offers a free ride for an impaired driver and their vehicle to a safe location within 10 miles. The service is available to both AAA members and non-members by calling (855) 2-TOW-2-GO. Ortner stresses that the program is not a substitute for planning ahead. “Tow to Go is there if you need it, but it’s not a substitute for proper planning. The safest choice is always to arrange a ride before you go out.”

AAA says it handled more than 687,000 roadside assistance calls during last year’s Independence Day travel period and is reminding drivers to never drive impaired, always buckle up, avoid distractions, and watch for pedestrians, bicyclists and other motorists throughout the holiday weekend.
