Omaha Man Arrested After Threats to School, Governor’s Family

By Tom Stanton Jul 18, 2026 | 8:34 AM

An Omaha man is facing multiple felony charges after investigators say he sent a threatening message targeting Columbus Catholic Schools and the family of Governor Jim Pillen. The Nebraska State Patrol says the investigation began June 29 after Columbus Catholic Schools reported receiving a threatening message through its website.

Investigators say the message included threats of violence against the school and Governor Pillen’s family.  NSP traced the message to an Omaha apartment and identified 32-year-old Ean Halstead as the suspect. Troopers say Halstead refused commands, ran inside his apartment, and barricaded himself for nearly two hours before surrendering.

He was initially arrested on charges of obstructing a police officer and failing to obey a lawful order. After examining electronic devices seized during a search of the apartment, investigators say they found evidence linking Halstead to the threatening message. He was arrested again Thursday on new charges of terroristic threats and destruction of evidence.

“Nebraska law enforcement takes threats against our schools seriously, and the Nebraska State Patrol will continue to use every resource available to protect students, staff, and our communities,” says Nebraska State Patrol Superintendent Colonel Bryan Waugh.

Waugh also praised investigators for their professionalism and said the case demonstrates the value of strong partnerships among law enforcement agencies. Governor Jim Pillen’s Chief of Staff, Dave Lopez also commended investigators. “We have zero tolerance for political violence here in Nebraska, including threats to carry it out,” Lopez says.”

“If you threaten violence against a public official or their family in this state, you will be found and held accountable.” NSP says it worked closely with Columbus Catholic Schools throughout the investigation to ensure the safety of students and staff.

The investigation remains ongoing.
