Van Dorn Park Mountain Bike Trail Improvements Begin July 27

By Tom Stanton Jul 24, 2026 | 2:39 PM

Mountain bikers will see temporary trail closures at Van Dorn Park beginning Monday as the City of Lincoln starts a two-week improvement project. The Parks and Recreation Department says portions of the mountain bike trail system at 9th and Van Dorn will be closed from July 27 through August 7.

Crews with Trails Have Our Respect will re-route sections of the trail to improve long-term sustainability, manage storm water more effectively, and bring the course in line with “green,” or easy-difficulty, trail standards. All closures will be clearly marked.

“Van Dorn Park’s mountain bike trails are an important outdoor resource for riders of all ages and skill levels,” says Alex Duryea, Planning and Construction Manager. “These updates will make the trail more accessible and resilient, ensuring it remains a great place for the community to ride for years to come.”

Duryea says the improvements will also create a safer and more enjoyable riding experience while reducing future maintenance needs.
