The Lancaster County SuperFair is adjusting to this week’s rain, but organizers say visitors can still expect a full lineup of attractions as opening weekend gets underway.
Marketing Manager Gina Nathan says heavy rainfall has reduced some parking areas at the Sandhills Global Event Center, but fair staff has shifted parking into campground areas and continues to offer free golf cart shuttle rides to help guests reach the grounds.
The wet conditions also forced the postponement of Friday night’s Nebraska Bush Pullers event, which has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 5. With cooler temperatures expected through the weekend, Nathan says organizers are optimistic attendance will increase.
Opening weekend features 4-H and FFA livestock and static exhibits through Sunday, along with the annual Hispanic Fest from noon to 11 p.m. Sunday. The festival includes live music, traditional dancing, food vendors and a taco-eating contest.
Sunday night also features the popular Figure 8 races in the grandstand. Throughout the week, fairgoers can enjoy free attractions including the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show, Wildlife Encounters’ alligator exhibit, an exotic animal petting zoo and the Nowhere BMX Stunt Bike Show.
MWA Pro Wrestling returns Wednesday with a free cage match inside the Freight House building, included with fair admission. The carnival is open until 11 p.m. nightly. Monday features a $25 unlimited-ride wristband special from 5 p.m. to closing, while Tuesday afternoon is reserved for children 12 and under, giving younger riders exclusive access to the carnival from 2 to 5 p.m.
