Nebraska State Patrol troopers found more than 100 safety and regulatory violations during commercial vehicle inspections in Lancaster County last week.
The Nebraska State Patrol Carrier Enforcement Division conducted the inspections Wednesday, Aug. 12. The Metropolitan Aggressive and Prevention Selective, or MAPS, Team inspected 30 commercial vehicles and found 113 violations of federal motor carrier safety regulations and state law.
Troopers placed 12 vehicles and one driver out of service, meaning they were not allowed to continue operating. Vehicles can be placed out of service for safety problems such as defective brakes or tires and other conditions that pose an immediate risk.
Troopers issued 27 citations and nine CVSA decals during the operation. The decals indicate a commercial vehicle passed inspection without immediate safety concerns.
The MAPS Team focuses on commercial vehicles that may not routinely pass through weigh stations. Troopers check for compliance with federal safety rules as well as state laws involving weight, size, registration, dyed fuels and commercial vehicle permits.
The team was established in 1998 and is made up of troopers from the Nebraska State Patrol Carrier Enforcement Division. It is funded largely through the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
