Chinese robots can run faster than the fastest man in the world. Usain Bolt, who holds the record for a 100 meter run………. By a human……. Was just beat by a humanoid robot. Usain ran it in 9.58 seconds. The robot, 9.32 seconds.
This just happened at an exhibition event where robots competed in weight lifting, running, and even ping pong.
The robot, name Lightning, was actually built by a company that normally makes smartphones. And Lightning isn’t unique. The second place robot was right on its heels. I watched the race. It felt like I was watching a sci-fi movie the way they accelerated so quickly….. I thought for sure one would fall over. Nope. It was like watching a metallic Cheetah on two legs. Give these things some smarts and we’ll be on our way to Terminator territory in a jiff.
The race end was fun though. Once they crossed the finish line, the robots were brought to a stop by running them into a big cushion, like what pole vaulters land on. Once the robots hit it they fell to the ground and waited for their human masters to get them.
