Package Theft Prompts Reminder to Secure Deliveries
Lincoln police are reminding residents to secure deliveries after a package was stolen from a porch near Ninth and South streets on Sept. 5. The resident told police he received a delivery notification but found the package missing when he went to retrieve it.
Doorbell camera footage showed a person taking the package and leaving, according to police. With holiday shopping approaching, police say increased deliveries can create more opportunities for package theft.
Police encourage residents to use delivery instructions to have packages placed in less visible locations, such as beside a garage, rather than leaving them exposed on a front porch. Many retailers offer options for customers to specify where deliveries should be left.
Police Seek Minivan and Suspects in Store Thefts
Lincoln police are asking for help locating a white minivan with Utah license plates and identifying people involved in reported thefts at Kohl’s and Home Depot. Both reports described people leaving stores with merchandise and entering a waiting minivan.
On Aug. 18, employees at Kohl’s near South 27th Street and Yankee Hill Road reported that two people filled a cart with clothing. Store security noticed a man carrying a large amount of clothing in his arms, and employees positioned themselves near the entrance to deter a possible theft.
Police say the two people ran from the store and threw the merchandise through the open side door of a white minivan with Utah plates. A driver then drove away.
On Sept. 19, a witness reported seeing a man run from Home Depot on South 70th Street carrying Milwaukee tools and enter the side door of a white Chrysler Town & Country with Utah plates. Anyone who recognizes the people involved or knows where the minivan can be found is asked to contact Lincoln Crime Stoppers.
