Lincoln residents will have another opportunity to pick up a free tree Friday as the city reschedules its tree distribution event.
The Parks and Recreation Department will give away 200 trees beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday, October 2nd, at the Union Plaza Amphitheater, 210 North 21st Street. The event will coincide with the Hub and Soul concert.
The original event, scheduled for September 25th, was canceled because of inclement weather.
The trees are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each tree comes in a three-gallon container with planting and care instructions. Available varieties include oak, elm, cherry, aspen and tuliptree.
The giveaway is funded through a grant from the Lincoln Community Foundation. The program aims to expand neighborhood tree coverage and replace trees lost to storms and the emerald ash borer, with a focus on low- and moderate-income neighborhoods.
