You’re at an ATM and before you even put your card in, you notice a bulging bag sitting on top of the machine. Are you curious enough to open it?
Let’s say you do. Then you find it’s filled with $128k in cash. Do you try to find the owner?
A man in Texas was recently in this situation. And the first thing he did was take it to his local Chic Fil-A…….. because something on the bag indicated that it might have been one of their deposit bags……. Not to spend it. That would have been kind of funny though. He could have made it a whole thing by buying a chicken costume, then showing up at Chic-Fil-A wearing it and announcing, ‘I’m throwing a chicken party!! Spicy chicken sandwiches for everyone, on me!!” Then the DJ he hired jumps in and plays The Chicken Dance for the next hour while everyone while everyone cheers and eats. Sounds like a good time.
But that’s not what he did. And, the money wasn’t the restaurant’s. So he took it to the police and notified the bank. Turns out that a security officer from an armored truck was filling the ATM and left the bag of money on top by accident. He also left a back of checks just sitting there too. I’m guessing he’s working at Chic-Fil-A now.
Also, ATMs have cameras and there’s about a 1,000% chance that if you find a bag of money on an ATM, a bag that belongs to the bank, they will see you take it and they will find you.
