Four two-year-old Husky mixes are recovering after being found severely malnourished and dehydrated near Conestoga Lake in Lancaster County. The Capital Humane Society says Teddy, Maisie, Milo and Winnie were brought to the Capital Humane Society’s Admissions and Assessment Center late Wednesday night.
Each weighed about ten pounds, less than half of what they should weigh. Humane Society officials say Teddy and Maisie were in the most critical condition and were unable to stand. Both were taken for emergency veterinary care and hospitalization.
Despite efforts to save him, Teddy’s condition was too severe and he was humanely euthanized.

Maisie is still fighting to recover. She is now eating and walking on her own, but continues to receive IV fluids, food and constant monitoring. Milo and Winnie are also receiving nourishment and veterinary care as they regain their strength.
The Humane Society says no underlying medical conditions have been found so far. The dogs’ conditions appear to be the result of starvation and dehydration, but officials do not yet know how long their recoveries will take.
The public can help pay for the dogs’ veterinary treatment and ongoing care through the Humane Society’s Zephyr’s Fighting Chance Fund. The Humane Society says while Teddy’s story ended too soon, donations can help give his siblings the opportunity to recover and thrive.
