A 21-year-old Lincoln man was injured Monday morning after accidentally shooting himself in the leg with a homemade firearm while driving near 27th Street and Cornhusker Highway. Lincoln Police Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says officers were called to the intersection around 5:15 p.m. October 19th for a report of a person with a gunshot wound.
Thomas says Ayden Brown was carrying the firearm in the waistband of his jeans without a holster and was handling it when it discharged, striking his left thigh and calf. Investigators determined the gun had malfunctioned earlier.
Thomas says the ‘ghost gun’ has no serial number. She tells KLIN News Brown purchased some components online and 3D-printed the remaining parts needed to assemble the weapon. He reportedly put it together just three days earlier.
Brown was cited and released for discharging a firearm within city limits. Another person in the vehicle and another driver assisted Brown in applying a tourniquet so he could receive medical attention.
