The Lincoln Police Department is inviting families to celebrate Halloween at its annual Trunk or Treat event Tuesday night. The free event runs from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Sandhills Global Events Center. Children can explore decorated trunks, collect treats and interact with first responders in a family-friendly setting.
LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says the indoor event offers families a fun alternative to traditional trick-or-treating. “It’s a great event because it’s indoors. It’s in a safe environment. You’re not having to worry about weather or going up and ringing doorbells,” Thomas tells KLIN News.
Dozens of decorated trunks will feature local public safety agencies, including the Lincoln Police Department, Lincoln Fire and Rescue, Nebraska State Patrol, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, Animal Control, UNL Police and the Department of Corrections.
Thomas says the event draws thousands of children each year, with attendance estimated at around 4,000 last year. The large indoor space allows families to move at their own pace while enjoying the decorations, taking pictures and collecting Halloween treats.
