Picking nose can lead to Alzheimer’s. Vid of doctor talking about it in blog.

By Austin Michael Jan 5, 2023 | 6:55 PM

Pick your nose and get Alzheimer’s. Professor St. John, the head of Neurobiology at Griffith University in Australia says to consider that next time you’re tempted to dig in your nasal goldmine. He put out a Tik Tok video explaining that, “If you damage the nose lining, you can increase how many bacteria can go up into your brain.” Then he talks about how some bacteria are linked to Alzheimer’s. That bacteria will travel right up the nasal nerve and starting building up proteins that contribute to the disease in just a few days.

This is going to be a huge blow to people celebrating National Nose Picking Day. It’s a real thing that happens every year on April 23rd. BY the way, the scientific term for nose picking is rhinotillexis. That’s Latin. Rhino means nose. Tellexis means the habit of picking. Is there anything else about nose picking I can tell you about? No? I should stop there? Ok.

@griffith_uni Digging for gold, nose mining, caddyshacking.. whatever you call it, this universal habit might not be as harmless as once thought! Griffith Researcher Professor James St John explains why we should keep our fingers out of there…😳🤧#UniTok #Research ♬ original sound – Griffith University
