Ladies, if you’re getting married or a bridesmaid this year or next, finding the perfect dress is probably going to get a lot harder. David’s Bridal announced that they are laying off over 9,000 employees and closing stores. In fact, they’ll probably have to close them all if another company doesn’t come to the rescue. This would be bad considering that they sell 1 out of every 3 dresses in the United States. They’re filing for bankruptcy, again. They’d just gone into bankruptcy a few years ago. Supply issues, changing attitudes about traditional weddings, and women sharing and second hand buying of dresses are all part of the issue.
I called the Lincoln store and asked if the bankruptcy is going to affect them. They said that as of now, it’s is fully operational and functional. I don’t think I’ve seen my wife’s dress since the year we got married. We’re renewing our vows this year, but we’re planning on doing everything casual. I suggested to her that she should cut the dress up and make some shorts and a shirt out of it…… or maybe a hat. I bet you could make a cool hat out of a wedding dress. We’re planning on doing the renewal during one of the Brews At The Zoo events this summer. We got married at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo.
