A new study showed that a pill, which is already in use for other treatments, cut the risk of death from some types of lung cancer by half. The pill, Tagrisso, was already being used to treat cancers. But in this study, they gave it to early stage lung cancer patients after they’d had a tumor removed. After 5 years, the patients that took it daily saw a 51% reduction in risk of dying.
Again, this study didn’t apply to all types of lung cancer. It focused on a specific mutation called EGFR that affects about 25% of lung cancer patients. But, a step forward in fighting any kind of cancer is a good thing.
