Restaurants are starting to use AI to take orders at drive-throughs. Carl’s Jr locations in California and hundreds of other spots have bought drive through chatbot software. Right now, it just has a preset group of responses, but that’s going to change. They say that each one can reduce a restaurant’s labor need by around 40 hours a week. One of the restaurant owners said that it’s working better because it offers an upsale option about 80% of the time. Having run a couple of retail businesses, I can tell you that most people don’t like engaging customers with an upsale so they don’t do it. An AI doesn’t have a problem with rejection. An AI also doesn’t have a problem if you yell at it for adding unwanted pickles.
A.I.s taking drive through orders now.
