Dangers in Florida: pythons, gators, and leprosy.

By Austin Michael Jul 31, 2023 | 6:55 PM

Bad news, Leprosy cases are on the rise. Good news, it’s predominantly in southern states………so we’re cool in Nebraska at the moment. Seriously though, Florida accounts for 81% of all the leprosy cases in the United States at the moment and cases have more than doubled over the last decade down south.

Maybe it’s all that swamp water.

Also serious, there were rising cases in Florida in 2015. It was blamed on wild armadillos.   That’s not a joke.

If you get leprosy, it can lead to your fingers and toes being reabsorbed into our body. There’s also blindness and disfigurement, but those aren’t as weird as reabsorption. Not in my book anyway.  The good news is that it can be treated and possibly cured after a couple of years.
