To put an extra couple of decades on your life, there are 8 things you should do. You need to be physically active, don’t be addicted to opioids, no smoking, manage stress, have a good diet, don’t regularly binge drink, have positive social relationships, and sleep well. Also, you have to start all that before you’re 40.

So, if you’re over 40, drinks are on me! We’re staying up all night!

Scientists just wrapped up a study of 700,000 Americans and found that people did all those things before they turn 40, then men lived around 24 years longer and women got an extra 21 years. 40 was their baseline, they say doing any of those things later in life is very beneficial too. They also noted that adhering to those habits is pretty much common sense, but they were surprised by how much it improved people’s longevity.
