Lincoln Police say one of their cruisers was struck by pickup truck on the side of the road Friday night. LPD Captain Todd Kocian an officer conducted a traffic stop and began a DUI investigation. “During that investigation, the officer placed the 59-year-old driver in the rear of his police cruiser while he moved the suspect’s vehicle off the roadway,” Kocian says.
At that time a 2021 Chevy Colorado pickup driven by 43-year-old Matthew Hofts of Lincoln rear-ended the cruiser and left the scene. “Officers served a search warrant at Hofts’ residence after unsuccessful attempts to make contact with him,” Kocian syas.
Hofts was arrested for leaving the scene of an injury accident. The 59-year-old driver was treated at the hospital for head injuries sustained in the crash. The cruiser sustained about $15,000 in damage.
