Doritos Nacho Cheese flavored booze will be available next month. Kind of makes my chocolate mac and cheese idea not sound so bad, huh? Empirical is a spirits company that jokingly infused Nacho Cheese Doritos into a batch of pilsner malt a couple of years ago. Turns out that they really liked it, made some every couple of months just for themselves and shared with chefs at restaurants they worked with. Then they pitched it to Doritos and here it comes in January. Lars William, from Empirical, said, “My goal was to recreate the entire experience of opening a bag of Doritos, getting that signature aroma, followed by its flavor dance across the palate with its unmistakable savory, cheesy, and umami notes.”
How many times have I read something like that on a bottle of flavored whisky or rum on to have it taste like cough syrup? But this is supposed to be different. They use a fancy vacuum system that runs real Dorito chips through the liquid. And according to people who have tasted and written about it, it’s an 84 proof clear liquid that tastes and smells like the real thing. They’ve even got recipes to make cocktails with the stuff like the Double Triangle Margarita on the Empirical website.
Of course, they made a limited supply and it’s $65 a bottle. By my estimates, for that price, I could get 1.75 liters of cheap rum and at least 8 bags of Doritos.
