My brother gave me a case of Buldak Spicy Ramen for Christmas. Some of it is super spicy. So spicy that I ate some and then felt like my face was on fire, my stomach bloated to the size of a car tire, and I couldn’t stop sweating. I took pictures and wrote a whole thing about it on Facebook. My friends made fun of me. My cousin who lives in Tokyo simply wrote, “Be…..a……man.”
Well guess what? That particular ramen has been banned by an entire country because it’s too hot. Denmark has recalled all packets of Buldak 3x Spicy & Hot Chicken, 2x Spicy & Hot Chicken, and Hot Chicken Stew because they can cause “acute poisoning” because of dangerous levels of capsaicin. That’s the stuff that makes peppers spicy.
According to Denmark, I could have died. So, cousin, who’s a man now??? Although, I’ll admit that Denmark isn’t known for their ability to create or consume spicy foods. I mean, one of their favorite dishes is fish meatballs. That’s not a joke.
America loves these horrifyingly spicy noodles though. Buldak made $110 million in profit last year. There have even been shortages of some of their flavors. I’ve see Buldak on Hy-Vee and Wal-Mart shelves.
