According to Open AI, the guys behind Chat GPT, artificial intelligence has reached step 3 of 5 stages to being its own thing. They announced stage 3 last week. That means it can take actions by itself, without you telling it so. It will anticipate what you want or need based on everything you’ve already done. Open AI isn’t calling them programs anymore, They’re now called “Agents”.
Where have I heard that before? Hmmmmm…….. right, in the Matrix. Agents were the programs that kept humans under control.
Zuckerberg and Meta announced last week that they have agents too and will make them available in January. You’ll simply install one on your computer and it will watch EVERYTHING you do. That way, it can have the proverbial dinner ready and on the proverbial table when you proverbially get home. It might involve a few robot overlords. But, just a few.
By the way, here are all those stages.
1.) Chatbots, AI with conversational language
2.) Reasoners, human-level problem solving
3.) Agents, systems that can take actions
4.) Innovators, AI that can aid in invention
5.) Organizations, AI that can do the work of an organization
