New no thaw, full turkeys for T-Day.

By Austin Michael Oct 17, 2024 | 6:55 PM

You don’t even half to thaw turkeys for Thanksgiving anymore. Butterball is selling a turkey that you can take out of the freezer and immediately put in the oven. They say it’s the whole turkey.

It sounds like Jedi magic to me. But it’s science, I hope.

According to Butterball, they’ve come up with a special new brine formula that keeps the turkey moist instead of drying up and burning. They say the average cook time is 5 hours….. which is longer than a typical thawed turkey. But they’re hyping this up as a time saver. I’m confused. Almost as confused as the time we had Thanksgiving at my aunt and uncle’s house. This uncle was working for a food distribution place that sold to large cafeterias in schools and hospitals. He brought home a special turkey that the company sold. It was supposed to save cooking time because it was processed turkey meat compressed into a mold shaped like a turkey you’d cook. Combine that with my aunt’s horrible cooking skills and out popped as mess where the inside was still frozen and the outside was burnt. We haven’t back there for Turkey Day for years now.
