We have food days every Friday in October here at the stations. It’s called Crocktober. Everything is cooked in crock pots. IN all the years, the thought of food poisoning has never crossed my mind.

That is, until I saw a story out of Baltimore today about FORTY-SIX people ending up in the hospital after getting food poisoning Monday. They’d eaten some kind of noodle dish that a co-worker had fixed at work. It didn’t say what the dish was.

Since tomorrow is the next Crocktober food day, I did some research about crockpots and food safety. As long as you keep it heated, the long term cooking and steam inside kills off bacteria. Of course, if you let it sit unheated and then turn it back on to serve, the bacteria could build up again as it cools.

Also, half the people here think that crock pot meals has to be spicy enough to be around 1 million on the Scoville Scale. That’s about what ghost peppers are at. I feel like that’ll kill almost any bacteria.

The 46 people are all out of the hospital and doing okay.
