Now that we’re into the holiday feast season, you should know that some of that food you’re gobbling down can trigger headaches and migraines. The good news is that a recent study found that some foods can cut back the headaches. First though, the headache triggers. Check the charcuterie board for aged cheeses like brie, feta, and blue cheeses. Also dried meats and even figs. Processed meats like the summer sausages trigger headaches. So will treats with lots of sugar, like those cookies you left for Santa. Also beware a lot of alcohol.

I know, I just took all of the fun out of the holidays.

However, that study I mentioned found that eating prebiotic fiber called inulin reduces headaches. People that took 10 grams of inulin with food and drink had a 30 percent drop in migraines. They also experienced less depression, anxiety, and stress, all things that are ramped up during the holidays. They say it works by improving gut health which helps regulate inflammation and neurotransmitter activity. Wheat, garlic, onions, and raw asparagus all contain inulin. But you can buy supplements fairly cheap.
