When I was very young, I was at a 2 week camp for creative kids. It involved computer programming, some music, and, for me, an introduction to Dungeons and Dragons. I learned how to play and kept playing for several years……… until I started noticing girls.
Recently, 20,000 adults, who I can only assume still haven’t noticed girls, got together or the world’s largest live game of D&D. It happened in Madison Square Garden and was billed as “Gauntlet In The Garden”. They even had giant 20 sided dice so everyone could watch the rolls. It actually looked kind of fun.
Fun, unlike when I got back from camp and had overly superstitious aunts and friends of my parents who were sure that I was suddenly in league with the devil. Imagine me rolling my eyes, over and over, as they were sure that I would be possessed like Tom Hanks in that after school movie “Mazes and Monsters”. Ooga-Booga! What eventually happened was that I made friends with some of the most intelligent and creative people in my life. And even after we put away our Dungeon Guides and Monster Manuals, those are still good people to have in my life.
