Lincoln Police have arrested a man accused of setting a fire and assaulting an officer late last week. LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says just after 10:45 Thursday morning, officers and Lincoln Fire and Rescue were called to North 10th and Benton Streets.
“Callers reported 24-year-old Sang Huynh of Lincoln was pouring gasoline on playground equipment behind his home and said he was going to burn it down before lighting it on fire.” Thomas says he left the area before officers arrived.
“While investigating the fire, officers located Huynh walking near 27th and Superior streets and asked him to talk,” Thomas says. “When an officer followed him, he turned around, pulled out two drumsticks and took an aggressive stance before walking away again.”
She says officers then told Huynh he was under arrest, and he began swinging the drumsticks at them, hitting one and causing him to fall. Huynh was ultimately put in handcuffs and taken to the Lancaster County Jail. He’s facing charges including attempted third-degree assault on an officer, resisting arrest and violating the city’s open burn ban.
