Lincoln Parks and Recreation will host a free youth track and field meet for kids ages 6 to 13 on Saturday, May 16.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lincoln Northwest High School. Registration is open through May 3 online or at Parks and Recreation offices.

Participants can compete in a mix of running and field events based on age group, with options including sprints, distance races, long jump and throwing events. Relay races are available for ages 8 and older.

Organizer Wade Noll tells KLIN News the event is designed to encourage youth participation in athletics.

“This is a great opportunity for kids in Lincoln and the surrounding areas to be active and have fun,” said Noll.

Ribbons will be awarded to the top four finishers in each division. Qualifying participants ages 8 and older can advance to the Nebraska Youth Track and Field Championships in June.

The department is also seeking volunteers for event operations, including check-in, timing and race coordination.
