Airlines are adding beds on planes for long flights. Which sounded wonderful to me at first. But……. Well, you’ll understand in a minute.
Air New Zealand will be first to feature what’s called the Economy Skynest Pods. They’re mostly enclosed sections that hold six beds. Although, cots are a better description. They’re big enough for one average sized adult. They’re stacked like bunks in a military barracks, 3 high. And they’re really close to each other……. Which creeps me out because every bed is within arm’s reach of total strangers……… who you have to crawl over, or vice versa, to get into these things.
Also, the “pods” will be in the aisle with seated rows on each side. People can walk by and look in. So, there’s not much privacy.
But, if you’re cool with all that, it will cost around a lot extra, and not even for a full flight. You have to reserve beds in 4 hour sessions for $500 on top of your plane ticket.
What if someone snores really loud? Can they be sent back to their seat? Can they prescreen people for snoring? I’d never be allowed in one without a CPAP.
