The City of Lincoln has released traffic safety protocols and street closures on May 2 and 3 for the Lincoln Mayor’s Run, Marathon, and Half Marathon. About 2,000 elementary age students will run in the Mayor’s Run and more than 7,000 runners will participate in either the Marathon or Half Marathon.
The Mayor’s Run will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday on the south side of the state Capitol. The Lincoln Marathon and Half Marathon will begin at 6:55 a.m. Sunday at 14th and Vine streets and end at Stadium Drive and “T” Street.
Spectators are encouraged to attend the events and support the runners along the route and at the start and finish lines. The route and additional information are available by clicking here. The Lincoln Police Department will control intersections along the race route and community members are advised to prepare for traffic delays.
LPD will post live @Lincoln_Police via X during the marathon and half marathon on Sunday as intersections reopen. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead when traveling during the event. Shane Dostal with LTU says they are making preparations to close down streets for the marathon.
“We have approximately 30 crew members that will start Friday and Saturday setting up cones, barricades and signs to alert the public that these streets will close on Sunday morning.” Dostal says they will work with Lincoln Police to close down the streets along the marathon route around 4:00 Sunday morning.
There will be limited access to Holmes Lake Park between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. For a complete list of street closures click here .
