Another giant sinkhole. This time on a bridge over a river.

Remember that sinkhole in Omaha a couple of months ago? A bigger one just opened up last Friday on a bridge just outside of Kansas City in Kansas.

And, unfortunately a family in a pickup drove right into it.

The driver, whose wife, daughter, and grandson were also in the truck, said it just looked like a shadow on the road until he was almost in it. By then, it was too late to turn out of the way.

And this is a huge hole, starting on the guardrails of one side of the bridge to the yellow line in the middle and it looks like it’s around 30 feet long.

The wife and daughter were taken to a hospital in Ottawa by ambulance and apparently are in good condition.

This bridge had just been inspected last July. Even though the report showed that the bridge was bending downwards where it wasn’t supposed to, had multiple holes in it, had heavy rust in the metal, had parts where water was getting into areas that it isn’t supposed to, and had heavy stone and and mortar deterioration, among about 5 other things, they gave it the thumbs up.

It had HOLES in it. And now, there’s one giant hole that you can see through to the river below it.

They’re going to have to tear the whole thing down now. It’s a bridge that had more than 500 crossings a day.
