After a long dry spell, the National Weather Service in Omaha says eastern Nebraska could see several rounds of severe weather through Monday along with extreme heat . Meteorologist Katie Gross tells KLIN News says temperatures could reach 90-95 degrees Friday afternoon with high humidity.
“With moisture returning to the region, we’ll begin to see storms develop a little earlier on Friday, maybe 6-7 p.m.” The primary hazards with those storms will be large hail and damaging winds.” Gross says there will be a chance of severe storms Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
In addition to large hail and damaging winds, Gross says a tornado or two can’t be ruled out each day. Emergency officials say one step you can take to prepare for the storms is is to make sure you have multiple ways to get weather updates, including radio and TV.
A NOAA all-hazards radio is an inexpensive investment that provides a significant measure of safety. “This radio will provide reliable, accurate, advanced notice of severe weather and promote seeking shelter in a timely manner,” says Lancaster County County Emergency Management Director Jim Davidsaver.
