Lincoln Parks and Recreation staff will conduct a prescribed burn from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday on nearly 20 acres near the Prairie Building at the Pioneers Park Nature Center. Trails north of Pioneers Park Nature Center and the parking loop south of the Cunningham Schoolhouse will be closed during the project.
Pioneers Park Road and access to the Prairie Building will remain open. The public is being asked to avoid the area. Aaron Druery, Parks and Recreation Greenways District Supervisor, says prescribed burns are tools to manage large areas of native plants and grasses, reduce wildfire risk, and enhance wildlife habitat.
Parks staff monitor weather and air quality conditions to ensure safe burns.
