The Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department and the Lincoln Parks Foundation will honor local veterans later this month during the 30th annual Bricks of Honor dedication ceremony. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at the Veterans Memorial Garden in Antelope Park.

The free public program will recognize 53 veterans whose names have been added to the garden over the past year and will also commemorate the founding of the memorial site. “Lincoln Parks Foundation is honored to recognize the veterans and service members whose names have been added to the Bricks of Honor this year in Veterans Memorial Garden,” says Randy Gordon, Lincoln Parks Foundation Executive Director.

“As our nation commemorates America 250, this year’s event carries even greater significance as we celebrate the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of those who have served our country.”  The Veterans Memorial Garden was created following the display of a traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall exhibit in Antelope Park in 1989.

The memorial was completed in 1991 and now features more than 6,000 personalized bricks honoring military personnel from across generations. Lincoln residents are invited to attend the dedication ceremony and pay tribute to the veterans recognized in the garden.
