Lincoln Transportation and Utilities is launching a new effort to help drivers navigate around construction zones across the city. LTU announced Monday the “We’re Routing for You” campaign, which encourages residents to use the free navigation app Waze and sign up for construction and traffic alerts through the city’s TextLNK program.
“We are investing in tools and resources that assist drivers during active street and infrastructure improvements, making planning your trips to and from your destinations easier,” says Liz Elliott, Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Director. “The more people who use WAZE to choose their route, the better the navigation information will be for drivers.”
The campaign will run through this fall and will be promoted through billboards near major construction sites, as well as on radio, streaming platforms, and social media. Elliott says more than 5,000 people have already signed up for TextLNK updates in the past year, receiving information on nearby street closures, traffic changes, neighborhood construction updates, and water main breaks.
The department is also expanding traffic signal coordination efforts and working with consultant support from Olsson to improve traffic flow, including adjustments in the downtown area.
LTU says additional resources include a City Construction Roadmap guide for businesses. You can access it at at lincoln.ne.gov/ConstructionRoadmap. The campaign was developed by Eleanor Creative, with a total investment of 150-thousand dollars. Billboard locations include 30th and Cornhusker Highway, and 1501 South Street.
