Lincoln Police say a Memorial Day weekend traffic enforcement effort along ‘O’ Street resulted in hundreds of traffic stops and dozens of criminal cases. Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says officers conducted the high-visibility enforcement project during the evenings of May 22nd through the 24th along O Street between 17th and 84th Streets.
Officers focused on dangerous driving, trespassing on private property and closed business lots, littering, excessive noise and alcohol-related violations. During the three-night operation, officers made 241 traffic stops, issued 238 citations and 60 warnings. Police also filed 20 criminal charges, served four warrants, cited five drivers for driving under suspension and towed nine vehicles.
The citation totals included 23 for reckless driving, 20 for speeding, 46 registration violations, 12 insurance violations, one seatbelt violation and 24 other traffic offenses. The enforcement project was funded through a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
