The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a series of mailbox vandalism cases in northeast Lancaster County. Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said deputies have responded to 14 reports of damaged mailboxes between July 18 and July 21, primarily in the Davey area.
Investigators believe the incidents are connected. Houchin says the mailboxes appear to have been struck with a baseball bat or a similar object, causing damage to both the mailbox and supporting posts. He says the vandalism appears to have occurred overnight as someone drove through the area.
“No, this isn’t the biggest crime in the world, but it does cost people time and money to fix their property, and it is a crime,” Houchin says. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at 402-441-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
